Pete the Sheep
By Jackie French
Illustrated by Bruce Whatley
For ages 4–9
The award-winning team behind Diary of a Wombat have joined forces again to create another highly amusing picture book.
Sean is a shearer and instead of a sheepdog to help him, he’s got a sheep sheep – Pete.
After being rejected by the other shearers and their dogs, Sean and Pete set up a sheep salon in town. Sheep from everywhere arrive to have their wool shorn in the latest style and even the shearers’ dogs end up arriving for a cut in order to look gorgeous.
Jackie French and Bruce Whatley have created the perfect combination of words and illustrations in this irreverent look at the world of sheep shearing.

Why picture books?
Picture books cover a diverse range of topics, expose children to words and language they might not hear normally in conversation, and teach children how reading works (left to right, top to bottom). While picture books might be too hard for early readers to read by themselves at first, the books are not too hard to understand. Reading picture books with your child will inspire them to learn to read on their own, and experience the pleasure of reading.
